Man shot dead in Cork
A man in his forties has been shot dead in Cork City.
It is understood that he answered a knock at the front door of his house in Thorndale, Dublin Hill at around 11.15pm last night.
A number of shots were fired but it is not yet known whether there was more than one gunman.
The man was brought to the Mercy Hospital, but died a short time later.
The scene has been preserved pending the arrival of officers from the Garda Technical Bureau and staff from the State Pathologist's Office.
The shooting victim has not yet been named.
