Down fire claims two lives

Investigators will resume their investigation today into a Co Down

house fire that claimed the lives of a man and a woman.

Their six children managed to escape the inferno. The fire was discovered at 9pm and fire crews had to use breathing apparatus to retrieve the badly burned bodies.

The children are being treated for shock.

The fire happened at the house close to the village of Cranfield, about three miles from Kilkeel.

It is thought the couple were in their late thirties or early forties.

Forensic experts will this morning resume their examination of the scene.
