Bank holiday weekend has the country on the move
Tens of thousands of people are on the move across the country for the June Bank Holiday weekend. Large numbers of people are making their way to various festivals and entertainment events in all corners of the country.
Twenty thousand music fans will throng to Galway and Cork for the Heineken Green Energy Festival where bands such as Ash, Ocean Colour Scene and The Waterboys will headline in both cities.
However, the biggest influx of the weekend is expected in Kilkenny. Up to 25,000 from across, Europe will pack into the Marble City for the 7th Murphy's Cat Laughs Comedy Festival.
Forty top comedians from around the world including one from Iran will perform in 90 shows. The Kilkenny economy is expected to benefit to the tune of IR£7m which should see traders launching their way to the bank.
Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of people are on the move in and out of Ireland. 350,000 passengers will travel through airports at Dublin, Cork and Shannon, an increase of 4% on last year's figures.
