The Taoiseach has said if a High Court action against the Dáil's Abbeylara Inquiry is successful, Oireachtas committees will no longer be able to investigate anything.

The Taoiseach has said if a High Court action against the Dáil's Abbeylara Inquiry is successful, Oireachtas committees will no longer be able to investigate anything.

36 gardai are challenging the current sub-committee inquiry.

Bertie Ahern told the Dáil this evening that the Government is preparing legislation to extend the power of such committees.

But he added this law will not be brought forward until after this crucial court case.
