Kepak management vows to restore jobs

Management at the Kepak plant at Watergrasshill in Cork say they will do everything possible to restore the facility to full employment.

The plant was gutted by fire yesterday with over 200 workers affected.

Investigators have ruled out a possible arson attack.

In a statement released this afternoon, the company said it is arranging to have some employees located temporarily in its other plants in Meath, Roscommon, Carlow or Dublin.

A spokesman said this process would take a number of days, as the company will have to take the personal circumstances and preferences of workers into consideration.

It is understood that some employees may have to be temporarily laid-off if relocation does not suit them.

The company says it does intend to redevelop the facility, which was extremely badly damaged by fire.

The slaughter plant of the site and Watergrasshill will reopen on Wednesday, and workers there will not be affected.

It is believed an electrical fault was the most likely cause of the fire.
