Enniskillen survivor to run in election

Jim Dixon, a survivor of the Enniskillen bombing in 1997, has announced he will stand as a candidate during the upcoming Westminster elections in the North.

He will be standing in the constituency of Fermangh/South Tyrone. The move follows a previous announcement by Mr Dixon that he would not be standing. He will be an anti-agreement candidate.

When the bombing survivor announced his previous decision not to stand last week he cited health reasons.

But, now sources close to Mr Dixon are alleging a dirty-tricks campaign by fellow unionists.

It is thought his decision to run does open up the possibility of a split in unionism in Fermanagh/South Tyrone.

Such a development would favour both the SDLP and Sinn Fein.
