Egyptian charged with fraud operation

A 35-year-old Egyptian national has appeared at Dublin District Court in connection with a major credit card fraud operation.

Mohammed Salem of Thomas Clarke Tower, Ballymun, Dublin, was charged under Section 28 of the Larceny Act for being in possession of four counterfeit credit cards.

Garda Mairéad Doyle told Justice Miriam Malone that Mr Salem was arrested yesterday morning at Airways Industrial Estate on the Old Swords Rd in north Dublin.

He did not apply for bail, but legal aid was granted on the basis that he is unemployed.

Mr Salem, who has been resident in Ireland for the past five years, was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison in Clondalkin, Co Dublin.

He will appear before the court at Cloverhill on Wednesday next at 10.30am.
