The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that samples have been taken from a flock of sheep at Watergrass Hill, Co Cork.

Officials say the move is aimed at ensuring the animals do not have the foot-and-mouth virus.

The sheep showed, in what has been described, as suspicious symptoms.

The samples have been sent to the Purbright Laboratories in the UK for analysis.
