Thurles to lose 230 jobs
A French-owned electrical appliance factory in Thurles, Co Tipperary, is to close with the loss of 230 jobs.
The GMX plant told their workers of the closure at a meeting with management today.
The factory’s owners, the Moulinex French multi-national company, closed down the Krupps plant it ran in Limerick with the loss of 500 jobs in 1999.
The company is currently undertaking a major worldwide rationalisation plan that will shed 4,000 of the currently 10,000-strong Moulinex workforce.
