Range of support measures proposed for north Louth

Social welfare requirements for the north Louth area should be kept under constant review to meet any needs emerging as a result of the foot-and-mouth crisis, according to the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs.

Minister Dermot Ahern has proposed the establishment of a monitoring committee for the region following the presentation to the Government of the final task force report on the crisis.

The report also suggests that financial institutions should initiate and support an integrated policy to help businesses struggling in its aftermath.

It further recommends that tourism authorities should pay special attention to the situation in Cooley and that support measures should be available for small and medium businesses.
