Gardai in Dublin must decide at 7pm this evening whether to release or press charges against a sailor they are questioning about the weekend death of his Naval Service colleague.

The 19-year-old man is being held at Pearse St Garda Station in Dublin about the death of 22-year-old Brian Gorey from Castletroy View in Limerick.

Able Seaman Gorey's body was found floating in the River Liffey beside the LE Eithne at around 5am on Sunday morning.

A post mortem revealed he had died as a result of drowning, but had serious head and body injuries.
