Two men have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 70-year-old widower at his home in the north.

Two men have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 70-year-old widower at his home in the north.

Lawrence Flanagan was found dead in his house on South Parade, in South Belfast on Monday.

Michael Anthony McDonnell, 21, and David Albert Taggart, 20, have appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court charged with killing Mr Flanagan.

Mr Flanagan, a father of three grown-up daughters, had worked for the Ulster Museum for close to four decades and had written several books.

McDonnell, of Delhi Street, was remanded to appear before the same court on May 9 along with Taggart, whose address was given as Malvern Way in the city.
