Guns and a pipe bomb have been found by police after a number of loyalists were arrested and questioned about a gun attack in north Belfast.

Guns and a pipe bomb have been found by police after a number of loyalists were arrested and questioned about a gun attack in north Belfast.

They were discovered in the Glenbryn area, not far from where a car used in the shooting was abandoned and set alight at playing fields in Ballysillan.

Nobody was hurt when a shot was fired at a house in Alliance Avenue last night.

Police said three men in a maroon coloured Vauxhall were involved in the attack, although a motive had not been established.

Several people were detained after the attack.

Meanwhile community leaders in Derry have appealed for an end to sectarian disturbances in the Protestant Fountain area.

Police had to move in to keep rival factions apart last night after nationalist youths threw petrol bombs at houses.

A number officers were hurt. One man was arrested
