A controversial new traffic plan comes into operation in Dublin for the first time today.

Diversions have been placed at a number of key junctions in a bid to reduce the amount of traffic in the city centre.

New signs have been erected on Nassau St, Kevin St and South Great Georges St directing commuters away from congested areas as part of Dublin Corporation's new £3m package of environmental improvements.

The move has been criticised by the AA, who said it will only serve to confuse motorists and will have little impact on Dublin's traffic problem.
