Final results on foot-and-mouth cases today

Definitive results on two separate suspected cases of foot-and-mouth in counties Louth and Wexford are due this morning.

Preliminary tests on the animals from Piedmont, Co Louth and Camolin, Co Wexford, showed as negative on Friday, but the Department of Agriculture is awaiting final results to give the cases the all-clear.

Meanwhile, a final cull of the estimated 15,000 remaining sheep in the exclusion zone on the Cooley peninsula is to begin today.
