Business groups seek urgent meeting with Harney
The Chambers of Commerce of Ireland is seeking an urgent meeting with the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Tanaiste Mary Harney.
CCI spokesman Simon Nugent said as minister responsible for businesses outside the agriculture sector, Ms Harney must clarify what assistance the government can offer.
He said that while the restrictions on movement so far had helped stop the spread of foot-and-mouth, they had also inhibited the economy.
He said the CCI is also keen to discuss possible deferment of some payments for businesses until the slump in trade is over.
