Call for tax breaks for stricken farmers

Farmers are calling for special tax treatment because of curtailments arising out of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

The ICMSA wants the Government to include a provision in the new finance bill to accommodate farmers who have been unable to claim stock relief because of a ban in livestock trade.

Chairman of the ICMSA's taxation committee Mike Doody said that although other sectors had been hit by the foot-and-mouth measures, farmers have a particularly strong case.
