A man has been airlifted to hospital in Letterkenny after the pleasure craft he was fishing in caught fire off the Inishowen peninsula today.

A man has been airlifted to hospital in Letterkenny after the pleasure craft he was fishing in caught fire off the Inishowen peninsula today.

The Malin Head coastguard service received the distress call at about 8am and two life boats from a rescue operation were immediately deployed.

The rescue involved two lifeboats from Lough Swilly, another from Mulroy coastguard, an RAF helicopter and the rescue 110 Helicopter from Sligo.

The rescued man is being treated for smoke inhalation.
