Planned new jobs at the Intel plant in Co Kildare are now in doubt with the news that the company is to cut its worldwide workforce by 5,000 as a result of falling demand.

Intel had intended to increase its 3,300-strong workforce at its European headquarters in Leixlip by a further 1,000 by 2004.
