'Public being exploited' over disinfectant prices - Reynolds
Fine Gael's western development spokesman, Gerry Reynolds TD, said today
he has received a number of complaints from the public about overcharging of foot and mouth disinfectant.
"I have received a number of complaints where consumers have been charged £50 for one gallon of disinfectant which was selling at £10 a gallon a few weeks
ago. Another disinfectant which retailed at £80 for five gallons now costs £200
for the same quantity," he said.
"The exploitation of the public by a number of retailers at a time of national
crisis is unpatriotic. There are over 30 disinfectants approved by the
Department of Agriculture, and every assistance and encouragement must be given to people to disinfectant all vulnerable areas, " he added.
He called on the Minister for Agriculture, Joe Walsh, to put an end to the overcharging.
