Armed gang hold gardai under gunpoint

An armed gang held gardai under gunpoint at a raid in a Co Donegal nightclub in the early hours of this morning.

The gang of at least three masked men tied up staff at the club in Redcastle just before 4am this morning.

Gardai were forced to lie on the ground at gunpoint when they arrived at the scene.

The gang forced a hostage into the boot of their getaway car, discharging a shot as they escaped.

They were then chased at high speed by gardai to the border near Derry.

The RUC later arrested one man in connection with raid.

In a follow-up operation, two men were arrested by gardai and one firearm was recovered.
