Road conditions worsening in Leinster
Road chaos is hampering thousands of motorists across the nation as snowstorms and blizzards intensify.
According to AA Roadwatch, an accident is being cleared on the N7 in the Curragh, just north of Kildare town.
However, tailbacks of over three miles have emerged on either side of the town as a result of two earlier accidents there.
A collision on Haughey's Lane in Dundalk has resulted in worsening circumstances around the Regional College, where conditions are already extremely poor.
Another accident is completely blocking the N1 north of Dundalk, between Newry and Dundalk at Dromad.
Meanwhile, 14 accidents have been reported on the Dundalk to Castleblayney road, due to the heavy blizzards affecting the area.
Gardai are advising motorists to avoid the area entirely.
Other areas where extreme caution is being advised - Co Wicklow: Newtownmountkennedy Bypass, Wicklow Gap, Sally Gap, Blessington; Co Dublin: Naas Road, Collinstown Lane, Lucan Road, Palmerstown, Celbridge Road; Co Louth: Dundalk, Dromad; Co Carlow: Carlow to Hacketstown Road (impassable), Carlow to Tullow Road (impassable).
