Line closed after bomb scare

There has been a bomb scare on the railway line at Broom Bridge, near Maynooth this morning.

Gardai are checking the line after a caller rang the Samaritans shortly after 7am to say that there was a device on the line.

Barry Kenny of Iaranrod Eireann confirmed that gardai were at the scene and that the line would not reopen until at least 9am, when they were sure everything was in order.

Two very busy commuter trains from Maynooth to the city center have been affected by the scare.
