Plan needed to deal with rising assaults: Ardagh

The chairman of the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights is calling on the Garda Siochana to put detailed plans in place to deal with an escalating number of assaults.

Sean Ardagh says the extended pub opening hours clearly put additional demands on garda resources, but he says there should be plans to deal with this.

Deputy Ardagh says on the whole the problem tends to be predominantly an urban one.
