The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is refusing to become embroiled in the communion controversy surrounding Ireland's new cardinal Desmon Connell.

The cardinal told Sunday newspapers that the Church of Ireland is not respecting Catholicism by encouraging Catholics to have communion in Protestant churches.
