McCreevy defiant over budget

Mr McCreevy said he would oppose any EU efforts to require Ireland to alter its budget, which he said would be ‘‘totally disproportionate’’.

‘‘When the euro was being framed, yes member states did give up their right to frame their interest rate policy, yes member states gave up their right to devalue or revalue their currency,’’ he told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.
