Over 8,000 homes nationwide are without power this afternoon after strong winds brought down power lines and lightning damaged transformers this morning.

Counties Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Wexford were worst hit and ESB emergency crews have been assigned to restore electricity to these areas as quickly as possible.
