Son gets life for murdering mother

A Dublin man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of the murder of his mother and the manslaughter of his father.

John Francis Dolan, 27, of Ravensdale Road, East Wall in Dublin had denied the charges of murdering his parents at the family home in June 1999.

The jury of five men and six women at a special sitting of the Central Criminal Court. took just under eight hours to find Dolan guilty of murdering 56-year old Gertrude Dolan and not guilty of murdering 71-year old John Dolan, but guilty of his manslaughter.

Mr Justice Paul Carney put back sentencing for the manslaughter verdict until March 9 next.
