A war of words has broken out between the National Council for the Blind and the Sisters of Charity over the sale of land in Dublin's plush Merrion Road.

A war of words has broken out between the National Council for the Blind and the Sisters of Charity over the sale of land in Dublin's plush Merrion Road.

The sale of the 14.5-acre site on the Merrion Road is expected to fetch £35m, with property experts saying the deal will set a new record for development land in the capital.

The Irish Council for the Blind has asked for a share of the proceeds,saying that under the terms of the acquisition, that there is a legal obligation to use the lands for services for the blind.

The Sisters of Charity say they will use the proceeds of the sale for various services and charities, and to build a convent to rehouse 12 nuns who now live in convents that are being given to St Vincent's Hospital.
