Vintners group refutes Kitt's accusations

The Vintners Federation has rejected accusations from Consumer Affairs Minister Tom Kitt that publicans are cashing in on the lifting of the drinks price freeze order.

The VFI, which represents the majority of publicans outside Dublin, said its members have not been abusing their position.

VFI President Dick Dunne said that in most rural pubs, a pint still costs between £2.20 and £2.30.

If there is a problem with a £3 pint, it is not to be seen in rural Ireland, he added.
