Security alert continues in Derry

The RUC has described as sensitive and highly dangerous the ongoing security operation at Claudy in Co Derry.

The area remains sealed off this afternoon as army bomb disposal experts continue their examination of a device found at the rear of an RUC station.

The suspect device, which was discovered following several anonymous calls to the RUC, is believed to be a substantial booby-trap type bomb.

Scores of families from the area spent the night in a local hall after they were evacuated from their homes.
