Beef destined for sale in shops has been confiscated in the North by officials carrying out BSE control checks.

The Food Standards Agency said its officers impounded 41,000 kilogrammes of German beef at an abattoir in Newry, Co. Down. It acted after spinal cord was discovered in two consignments.
