Lawlor given until lunchtime to appeal

Liam Lawlor TD has still not indicated whether he intends to appeal last Monday's High Court decision to jail him.

The Dublin West TD is scheduled to begin a seven-day sentence at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin later today for failing to obey a court order in October, which compelled Mr Lawlor to answer all questions at the Planning and Payments Tribunal.

The Deputy has until lunchtime to lodge an appeal application to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach refused to say whether the embattled TD should resign his Dáil seat or not.

However, Bertie Ahern stated he agreed fully with the dramatic ruling against Deputy Lawlor.
