Lawlor expected in Supreme Court today

Liam Lawlor TD is expected to appeal his jail sentence to the Supreme Court today.

He has only until tomorrow to try to get a stay on the committal order sending him to prison for a week. The Dublin West TD has been considering his options since the jail sentence was handed down in the High Court yesterday.

Even if the TD does manage to convince the Supreme Court to hear his appeal, it is thought Deputy Lawlor will have to come up with some new evidence to convince the judges not to imprison him.

Deputy Lawlor faces seven days in jail following his conviction for contempt of court yesterday. He has also been ordered to pay a £10,000 fine and legal costs.
