Lawlor should resign his Dail seat: Shatter
Fine Gael spokesman on Justice, Equality and Law Reform Alan Shatter TD, said today that Liam Lawlor should now resign from Dáil Éireann.
"The unprecedented judicial condemnation of Liam Lawlor?s failure to comply with orders of the Flood Tribunal and his sentence to imprisonment for contempt of Court renders it untenable that he remain a member of Dáil Éireann.
"Fine Gael is calling on Liam Lawlor to resign from the House. Should he hesitate in doing so, Fine Gael demands that the Taoiseach immediately arrange for a motion to be tabled before the House removing him as a member of the Public Enterprise and Transport Committee and the Finance and Public Services Committee and that he explain why to date he has not done so.
"If Fine Gael had not tabled a motion for Lawlor's removal as Vice-Chair of the Finance and Public Services Committee, Deputy Lawlor would today still be a Committee office holder at the behest of the Taoiseach," said Deputy Shatter.
