Ireland is giving £400,000 towards the continuing rescue operation in El Salvador following Saturday's devastating earthquake.

The announcement, by Minister of State Liz O’Donnell, came as the official death toll climbed to 400, with a further 1,000 listed as missing. The cash will be given to agencies such as the Red Cross to use in the disaster area.
