ASTI rejects newspaper reports

The Association of Secondary School Teachers has rejected newspaper reports of a new peace plan in the second-level pay dispute.

This morning's Irish Independent suggested that enough progress could be made to avert next week's stoppages and that a proposal has been made to establish a teaching commission.

However, Charlie Lennon of the ASTI said the reports were completely misleading and, while the mediator in the row had been in contact with both sides, no progress had been made.
