Taxi row returns to the High Court

The controversial decision to deregulate the taxi industry is back in the High Court this morning as the application by the National Taxi Drivers' Union to reverse the Government's decision is heard.

Mr Justice Paul Carney has already heard two-and-a-half days of evidence in this case, and lawyers for the union are due to continue their argument this morning.

The State's legal team has yet to make its case, so the hearing is likely to run for at least another two days.

The nation's taxi drivers are disgusted at the deregulation move, which they say will put many of them out of business. Since the decision was made, hundreds of licence applications have been received by Dublin Corporation.
