Aer Lingus to review cockpit access during flights

Aer Lingus is reviewing its policy on access to the cockpit of its jets. This follows last week's incident when a British Airways jumbo en route to Nairobi plummeted thousands of feet after a disturbed passenger grabbed the controls.

The man managed to knock off the autopilot during a struggle with the captain and brought the jet within seconds of disaster. Like most European airlines, Aer Lingus flights only lock cockpit doors for take-off and landing. In contrast, all American carriers insist doors are locked for the entire journey.
