As Europe grapples with the BSE disaster, the Government is now trying to prevent speculation about the quality of Irish salmon.

The Junior Minister for the Marine, Hugh Byrne, is stressing that the same can’t be said about Ireland.

He says Irish salmon is the best in the world, having created a niche market in France, being the only northern hemisphere country to supply eggs to Chile, and having what he calls the "strictest health regime in the world".
