The RUC Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan may be called as a key witness at a private hearing into the continued imprisonment of the loyalist Johnny Adair. It has been confirmed that Sir Ronnie is on standby to back a British Government attempt to keep Adair in jail. There are fears that if released, Adair will once again cause tensions in loyalist areas of Belfast. The hearing, which is getting underway this morning, is expected to last two days
