A father and son have appeared in court in Co Cork again today in connection with an attack which left a Garda hospitalized with multiple injuries.

A father and son have appeared in court in Co Cork again today in connection with an attack which left a Garda hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Garda Sean Twomey sustained a fractured arm and rib when he was assaulted in Cobh yesterday morning.

Michael Tobin Jr of 9 Assumption Place, Cobh is charged with assaulting both Garda Twomey and Garda John Ahern.

Blarney District Court was told that the defendant was carrying a three foot-long block of wood studded with nails, with which he is accused of trying to intimidate. He was remanded in custody to appear again at Midleton District Court on January 16.

His father Michael Tobin Sr is also accused of assault and other offences.

He was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Cobh District Court on January 24.
