A former employee of a bank in Cork has entered a signed plea of guilty having been charged with stealing €105,000 from account holders over a five-year period.

Niamh Thornton, aged 36, with an address at Ahamore, Causeway, Co Kerry, yesterday appeared at Macroom District Court to face 191 charges arising from her time as an employee at the Bank of Ireland on the town’s Main Street.

She is charged with 187 counts of stealing sums ranging between €100 and €2,000 from three Bank of Ireland account holders contrary to Section 4 of Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act.
