Threats to US firm made by ex-worker
IT company Netgear, which has an operation at the University Technology Centre on Curraheen Rd, Bishopstown, said a contract employee working for an outsourced care company was removed from the site.
Red FM, whose studios are also based in the technology centre, reported that the man arrived at the Netgear offices dressed in what was described as ‘jihadi-type gear’ and cited passages from the Koran.
It further reported the man claimed he would “bring the Bataclan to Curaheen” — a reference to the theatre in Paris where 89 people were killed in a terrorist attack last year.
“We can confirm that a contract employee was escorted off site on Wednesday. Our security procedures ensured that the incident in question was speedily resolved,” Netgear said.
Gardaí say they are aware of the incident, but did not receive any formal complaint.
