A 30-year-old man was put on trial yesterday for allegedly threatening to put a gun to his aunt’s head and to burn down her house after she inherited the property from her mother and decided to sell it.

A jury was sworn in to hear the case against Alan Garland at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. He is accused of threatening to cause criminal damage to Joanne Bell’s house at 9 Cahergal Park, Ballyhooley Rd, Cork.

Ms Bell told prosecution barrister Ray Boland Mr Garland did not want her to sell the house, which was left to her by her mother, who died in October 2015.
