The Garda Representative Association said the exemptions they have given to 18 units and areas will provide a “skeletal service” to protect the community and the State today.

GRA general secretary Pat Ennis yesterday said that, as things stood, the “vast majority” of members, numbering 10,300, would not be turning up for work over the 24-hour action, starting at 7am.

This is despite the directive issued by Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan on Tuesday ordering members to report for duty.
