Tributes have been paid to Joan Crosbie, who passed away yesterday at the age of 91.

Mrs Joan Crosbie (née Dempsey), who lived at Summercove near Kinsale, was married to the late George Crosbie, former chairman of newspaper group Thomas Crosbie Holdings, which included the Irish Examiner and the Evening Echo among its many titles.

Mrs Crosbie turned 91 just last week and passed away peacefully yesterday morning in the care of the staff at the Haven Bay Care Centre in Kinsale.

Mother to Anne, Jean, Alan, Susan, Pat, Una, Paul, and Philip, she also had 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She will lie in repose at Gabriel and O’Donovan’s Funeral Home, Kinsale today from 4pm followed by removal at 6pm to St John the Baptist Church, Kinsale.

Requiem Mass will take place tomorrow at noon, with funeral afterwards to St Eltin’s Cemetery.

She is pre-deceased by her husband, George, who died in 2009.

At his funeral their son, Alan, said in the eulogy: “We all feel really loved by Dad but he loved Mum most of all and he was so proud to go out with her on his arm.”
