Near misses between council members and deer on some of Kerry’s main roads have been recounted at a council meeting there.

The annual rut, or mating season, is currently taking place. One of the councillors who had encountered the animals, Cllr Patrick O’Connor-Scarteen, said he was “sick of raising this issue in this council”, but nothing was being done.

Mr O’Connor-Scarteen (FG) said deer were out of control and, apart from carrying Lymes disease and TB, they were damaging crops, fences, gardens and forestry.
