VIDEO: Body taken from car in Cork's River Lee
Emergency services got a call at approximately 4.25pm from members of the public to say that they had seen the car entering the river at Kennedy Quay.
A Coast Guard boat and helicopter, the Crosshaven lifeboat, four fire brigade crews, and two ambulances all rushed to the scene and they managed to located the vehicle quite quickly.
Once divers from the naval service arrived on scene, the man’s body was removed from the car a short time later.
It was also established that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
A crane was then brought in and the car was winched from the water shortly before 8pm.
Last night, gardaí confirmed that the man had been in his forties, and that they did not consider his death to be suspicious.
