Former senator James Heffernan faces driving charges

A former national politician appeared in court yesterday, charged with a number of offences, including drink driving and dangerous driving, close to where a weekend music festival had been taking place during the summer.

James Heffernan, aged 36, of Co Limerick, who lost his seat in the Seanad last April, appeared before Judge Brian Sheridan at Fermoy District Court.

He faces five charges in total, all of which allegedly took place in Mitchelstown, Co Cork on August 1.
